Nseleni area is a poor disadvantaged community, with poor access to essential services in the Umvoti Local Municipality.
In 2020, LETCEE established a Toy Library in Nseleni and placed itinerant ECD practitioners to provide early childhood education in the area. The Toy Library was a big hit and more and more children not only came to borrow toys but also to play in, what was then, an old shipping container. The toy librarian received training in ECD and achieved her NQF level 4 certificate. The centre thrived and we received funding to not only provide porridge for breakfast but also to cook a healthy nutritious meal for the children. For this to happen the building needed to expand. One of the committee members of the centre came forward and donated a piece of land to the project to allow for the expansion.
LETCEE approached the neighbouring NTE Factory in Hermannsburg, to help with the extension. We are very grateful to say that the NTE Factory built a wonderful 2-room flat for the classrooms, cast a huge play area outside with a massive roof to shelter from the weather and moved the shipping container onto the premises as well.
Within days the centres’ capacity was filled to 40 children. It showed us the need and want for early childhood education in Nseleni.
Thank you to the NTE Factory, Mr Aherin and his team!! We are very blessed to have you as partners in Early Childhood Development.
