Playing is an essential aspect of childhood. It is how children learn, grow and develop. Play helps children develop their cognitive, motor and social skills as well as promoting emotional well-being. However, for children with disabilities, play can be challenging. LETCEE’s Play-Able programme caters for children with special needs to ensure that they get the same opportunities for playing and development as their peers. The project has got three pathways to support our children. Inclusive play groups, interdisciplinary rehab and socio-emotional support. Furthermore, the Play-Able Programme vehicle is equipped with suitable toys and resources to function a s a mobile Toy Library.
We are proud to share that our colleague, Sbusiso Mhlanga, who runs this programme, has been recognised by the Toy Library Association of South Africa (TLASA) as the Toy Librarian of the year 2023. This award is a testament to his dedication and passion for promoting learning and play among children and we couldn’t be happier for him. To celebrate his achievement, TLASA rewarded him with amazing toys that he and his toy library truly deserve. His hard work and efforts have not gone unnoticed and this recognition serves as a motivation for everyone.
Moreover, he also gave a radio interview to talk about his experience as a toy librarian and the impact it has on children’s lives. This was a great opportunity for him to inspire others and spread awareness about the importance of inclusive learning. We are humble to have such an inspiring colleague in our team and proud to see him achieving great heights. Congratulations to Sbusiso Mhlanga and we look forward to more such accomplishments in the future.
